Before purchasing any product, a consumer wants to know as much information as possible. The eForCity site doesn't give a lot of information about the eForCity POTHHDMID2M1. And, even after our research and contacting customer support, we were unable to obtain the desired information about this DVI to HDMI cable. It is because of the lack of information about the adapter cable and the poor customer service that this product ranked the lowest in our review.

We were unable to confirm that this product had gold-plated connectors, though the images imply that the DVI-D connector and the HDMI connector have gold plating. We were also unable to confirm if the core conductor was made of oxygen-free copper and if the cable supported high resolution images. This ambiguity is one of the main reasons this DVI to HDMI cable ranked so low.

The manufacturer does specify, however, that this cable is shielded. In fact, the molded ends and inner hood ensure that you have shielding from end to end. Shielding is important because it prevents any interference. Electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference can disrupt the signal and show up on your image in the form of static, pixilation and ghosting.

The eForCity POTHHDMID2M1 has a maximum bandwidth of 5 gigabytes per second (GBps). This is about half the bandwidth of most of our other reviewed DVI to HDMI cables. Nonetheless, this adapter cable does have matching impedance on each end. This is important to have because, otherwise, one connector could allow a current that would overload the other.

A single-link DVI-D connector features two sets of nine pins and a flat blade. This type of connector is preferred by some because it is compatible with a wider variety of DVI ports. The dual-link connector, like the one found on this DVI to HDMI cable, is able to transmit more data; it has one set of 24 pins and a flat blade.

This adapter cable is available in five different lengths: 1 meter (3.3 feet), 2 meters (6.6 feet), 3 meters (9.8 feet), 4.5 meters (14.8 feet) and 7.6 meters (24.9 feet). This should be more than enough variety for your connection needs.

The customer support for this cable was surprisingly disappointing. The FAQs page is mostly about shipping and purchasing stuff off of their site. There weren't specific questions or answers about this product. We were also unable to find a telephone number for technical support. We sent them an email with some questions but never received a reply.

Summary:

The eForCity POTHHDMID2M1 will probably still do everything you want from a DVI to HDMI cable, but the information supplied by the company was unsatisfactory. Their customer support was also lacking, so we weren’t able to get a lot of the information that we needed. This isn't a bad product, it just doesn't compare well to the other ones we reviewed.
